Dynon Adds New Autopilot Capability 
with Release of EFIS Software Upgrade

Dynon Avionics, Inc. today announces immediate availability of software version 5.0.
Woodinville, WA, USA, November 13, 2008 - Dynon Avionics, Inc. today announced the release of new software version 5.0 for both their EFIS (Electronic Flight Instrument System) and EMS (Engine Monitoring System) products. This software upgrade is available free to all existing EFIS-D10A, EFIS-D100, FlightDEK-D180, EMS-D10, and EMS-D120 customers and will ship with new instruments. 
NEW AUTOPILOT   The most significant new feature is an advanced autopilot capability.  For the incremental cost of Dynon pitch and roll servos, pilots can turn their EFIS instruments into a fully integrated autopilot system.  The Dynon autopilot system is unique in the Experimental and Light Sport market because the autopilot controls are included in the EFIS, similar to many expensive certified glass cockpit solutions. This allows for a cleaner user interface, better redundancy, and lower overall cost.  The combination of two Dynon EFIS instruments plus two servos is typically less expensive than a single EFIS plus a separate autopilot from competitors.  Dynon autopilot servos carry a List Price of only $750 each, and mounting kits are only $75.
Keeping with its tradition of innovation, the Dynon autopilot offers many advanced features.  Basic features include flying magnetic heading, plus GPS ground track from a connected GPS.  In addition to altitude hold, even the least expensive Dynon autopilot can fly to a new altitude and level off.  Additional standard features include emergency 180 degree turns and control wheel steering. And because the Dynon autopilot is based on its best-selling EFIS systems, it can also respect bank angle, airspeed, and G limitations.
The optional AP74 Dedicated Autopilot Interface Module adds separate autopilot controls and, like many expensive certified autopilots, adds the ability to pre-arm which mode will be flown upon autopilot engagement.
NEW INTERNAL DATA LOGGING   Also included in version 5.0 release is the addition of EFIS Internal Data Logging, which stores readings for all primary flight instruments for later flight analysis.  Data readings can be configured in 1-, 3-, 5-, 10-, 30-, and 60-second intervals.  Data logging storage limit is at least ½-hours at the 1-second interval and up to 40 hours at the 60-second interval.

With the final polish on the Dynon Avionics Autopilot being applied, we wanted to take a moment to let all of you know where everything stands, and to provide some details on the recently-announced ability to order install hardware in advance of the actual Autopilot firmware release. Though we obviously won’t quite make our original “end of summer” release date, we’re confident that you’ll agree the final product will be worth the wait!

Test Program Update

Dynon has been working with a small fleet of testers on the flight dynamics and performance qualities of the Autopilot for a few months now. So far, the Dynon Autopilot is flying a diverse set of aircraft, including examples of the RV-4, RV-6, RV-7, RV-8, RV-9, Glasair Sportsman 2+2, Sonex, SeaRay, BD-4, and more. People familiar with these aircraft will recognize that this represents a fairly wide range of stability profiles and performance characteristics. As we move forward, we will continue to add experience in different aircraft.

Hardware Pre-release Details

Every Dynon Autopilot is comprised of a combination of a Dynon EFIS (running the upcoming 5.0 version of firmware), Dynon servos, and optionally the AP74 Dedicated Autopilot Interface Module. The launch servo models, mounting kits, and AP74 modules are finalized, but the 5.0 EFIS firmware update needed to enable autopilot functionality is still going through our pre-release testing process. To accommodate strong customer demand, though, we have decided to begin selling servos and installation kits ahead of the full Autopilot EFIS firmware release. We will begin taking orders for these items for immediate delivery starting on Wednesday, October 8, 2008.
This means that customers can opt to take delivery of servos, mounting kits, and AP74 modules now, allowing them to install hardware, run wires, and be completely ready for the Autopilot functionality once it is ready.
Dynon Avionics expects the firmware update to be available in November 2008. To reiterate, this means that customers can choose to purchase and install their servos, installation kits, and AP74 modules now, but their EFIS will not be able to drive those servos for at least a few more weeks.

Changes since the Sun ‘n Fun Announcement

A few things have changed since we initially announced the Autopilot at Sun ‘n Fun.

Trim-Sensing

We couldn’t promise it at Sun ‘n Fun, but we can now: EVERY Dynon Avionics servo will ship with the ability to sense and enunciate out-of-trim conditions, along with the required corrective action, when a servo is used on the pitch axis. By helping the pilot keep the aircraft in trim, undesirable pitch excursions after the autopilot is disconnected are minimized.
There is a small chance that the EFIS firmware to support trim-sensing will not be available in the initial autopilot firmware release. If it is not ready, altitude hold will be possible, but altitude change will be inhibited until a follow-up firmware release.

Increased Servo Torque Output

We are excited to announce that our servos are producing considerably more torque than we originally specified. This means that they can produce significantly more torque than competitive servos without any corresponding increase in drag. Practically, this means that some aircraft models may be able to use a size smaller servo than they would with other autopilots. This will further decrease the already small residual drag on the control system even further.
The final specs for each servo are:
SV32: 36 in-lb
SV42: 55 in-lb
SV52: 72 in-lb (available in the near future)

Pre-Selects with AP74

As of Sun ‘n Fun, only the AP76 Advanced Autopilot Module (project currently on hold) was slated to offer true pre-selects on heading, track, and altitude. We have now decided to add this feature to the AP74 as well. This means that you can opt to set up the autopilot with heading, track, or altitude targets before you engage each mode.
As this feature is a late addition to the Autopilot, it will not be ready in the initial firmware release. Instead, it will be added in a follow-up firmware release. Also note that pre-selects are not possible without the AP74 or AP76.

Servos + Mounting Kit Packages for RV-6/7/8/9

To make purchasing Autopilot hardware as easy as possible, Dynon Avionics has put together single part number, preconfigured mounting kit and servo packages for each axis of aircraft for which we have both items available.

Servos with Output Arms

The SV32 and SV32L are the smallest servos that Dynon Avionics will offer and produce up to 36 in-lb of torque. They have conventional output arms for use in push-pull control systems.
The SV42 and SV42L produce up to 55 in-lb of torque, utilizing a slightly larger servo motor than the SV32. They also have conventional output arms.
Standard arm servos and long arm servos (denoted by an “L” suffix) differ only in the length of their output arms. "L" servos allow for slightly more travel in aircraft that require it, but yield a smaller force available at the longer arm attach points. Due to the decrease in available force, long arm servo models should generally only be used in aircraft that require them.

AP74 Dedicated Autopilot Interface Module

The AP74 will be available in both the horizontal and vertical versions previously announced. It comes with a mounting tray and connector kit.

RV-6/7/8/9 Mounting Kits

Mounting kits for both axes of the RV-6, RV-7, RV-8, and RV-9 will be available.

Generic Push / Pull Mounting Kit

For aircraft that Dynon has not yet developed a mounting kit, but which definitely use a servo with output arm (as compared to a cable / capstan drive servo), Dynon has developed a generic kit that includes rod ends and other servo attachment hardware. Note that if you use this kit, you will need to determine an adequate location and mounting method for installing your servos.

What is not Available on Thursday, October 9, 2008

The following items are still under development, and will not be available on October 9, 2008:
Autopilot Software for EFIS products: This is an early hardware-only release, allowing builders and installers to get aircraft ready for the final release of autopilot software. We do anticipate releasing final 5.0 EFIS software in November, 2008.
Capstan Servos: Servos that are equipped with a capstan for use in cable control systems will not be initially available. Popular aircraft that use these types of servos include the Zenith 601 (on the pitch axis), the Glastar series, and Murphy Moose.
Mounting kits other than those specified above will not be available until a later date. Keep an eye on the Dynon Avionics website for more information about mounting kits under development.
As previously announced, the AP76 Advanced Autopilot Module will not be available before the end of the year.  However, customers that elect to purchase an AP74 now will be able to trade it in for full credit towards an AP76.
Finally, the ability to track a VOR or Localizer from a radio will not be available with the initial Autopilot firmware release. It will be released in a follow-up firmware release, due out shortly after the 5.0 release. Note that this only applies to radio-based navigation aids.  GPS-based track and course following will be available upon the initial autopilot release.
There is a mounting kit that is available for the RV-4 pitch axis, since it is the same as the RV-8’s. However, there is no roll mounting kit available for the RV-4 and no current plans to produce one.
Similarly, there is an RV-10 roll mounting kit available, but no pitch mounting kit yet. We will be developing and releasing an RV-10 pitch mounting kit in the near future.

Dynon is excited to introduce the newest member of the SkyView family. Dynon's new SkyView SE system offers a streamlined and simplified experience for pilots of simple VFR aircraft. The SV-D600 7" and SV-D900 10" displays are priced hundreds of dollars lower than existing SkyView displays.
SkyView SE displays are made specifically for VFR aircraft and pilots who want the most intuitive flight and engine instruments on the market. They feature simple and clear displays, with almost no menus to navigate in flight. At the same time, SkyView SE retains modern, innovative Dynon EFIS capabilities like SkyView’s revolutionary COM radio interface and 2-axis autopilot with single-touch controls.
Without mapping capabilities, even the 7" SkyView SE display has a large, easy-to-read Primary Flight Display, including pilot-selectable six-pack "steam gauges". With its simplified feature set and installation, SkyView SE is the successor to Dynon’s legacy D100 series products (which remain available). SkyView SE systems configured like their D100 series counterparts are similar in price. SkyView SE displays have the same dimensions and mounting requirements as existing SkyView 7” and 10” displays.

Dynon expects SkyView SE to be popular with ultralight and simple light sport aircraft, where its low weight and low cost help make factory-built aircraft affordable. Dynon Avionics’ breakthrough SV-GPS-2020 is now shipping. The SV-GPS-2020 enables General Aviation’s most affordable ADS-B Out 2020-compliant solution.
The new SV-GPS-2020 GPS Receiver/Antenna from Dynon lets new and existing SkyView and Advanced AF-5000 series customers add a 2020-compliant GPS position source for ADS-B Out for only $590. As a drop-in replacement for the existing SV-GPS-250 receiver, owners of existing systems do not need to run any additional wires, coax, or install any new boxes in their aircraft.
SV-GPS-2020
When combined with Dynon’s SV-XPNDR-261 Mode-S transponder, SkyView and Advanced Flight Systems customers meet all the 2020 mandate transponder and ADS-B Out requirements for $2790. Pilots can also add the SV-ADSB-470 Traffic and Weather ADS-B Receiver for the best-possible situational awareness in their aircraft.
SV-GPS-2020 Software Support
SkyView v14 includes support for the SV-GPS-2020, allowing US pilots to meet the FAA’s 2020 ADS-B Out requirements when paired with the SV-XPNDR-261 Mode-S transponder. SkyView’s new GPS Fix Status page and updated FAR 91.227 Compliance Status page help you ensure that you installation is configured properly.
Update for Continued ADS-B Traffic Reception (SIL/SDA 1 Issue)
Prior to early 2016, a SkyView system using an SV-GPS-250 as the GPS position source for ADS-B Out transmitted a SIL and SDA of 0. Beginning in 2016, a SIL and SDA of 1 is required by the FAA for the ADS-B infrastructure to transmit ADS-B traffic data to individual aircraft.
Using both internal and FAA-provided data, Dynon Avionics has conducted a rigorous analysis of the service history and field use of the SV-GPS-250 and the SkyView system as a whole. This analysis supports the use of the Dynon Avionics SV-GPS-250 as an ADS-B Position Source with a SIL/SDA level of 1. Dynon Avionics implemented the change to SIL/SDA in January 2016 as part of SkyView firmware version 14.0.
Note that this change only pertains to the SV-GPS-250. Aircraft equipped with an SV-GPS-2020 aircraft will transmit even higher SIL/SDA levels for full 2020-compliance.
Aircraft Glide Ring
SkyView v14 enables the display of a wind-adjusted aircraft glide ring by utilizing aircraft performance parameters such as best glide speed, sink rate, and height above the ground:
Checklists
SkyView gains the ability to display checklists in version 14. Checklist files can be edited on any device that can edit text files. They are imported and exported like other SkyView Files.

Go-Around Mode
Pilots who have VNAV autopilot approach capability via a NAV radio or IFR GPS can now activate a “go-around” mode with the touch of a button. This allows the autopilot to continue to reduce the workload in a go-around situation.
When in VNAV mode, go-around mode can be activated via any of 3 mechanisms: pressing any of the Nose Up button on the SV-AP-PANEL, the AUTOPILOT > PITCH > GO AROUND button on-screen, or an optionally-connected external button. Go-around mode changes the AP lateral mode to TRK mode with the approach inbound course as the target. Pitch mode is switched to either IAS or VS mode (dependent on setup) with the default climb VS or IAS selected. An “ADD POWER” annunciation is also provided on the PFD page.
Rotax 912 iS Improvements
Most Rotax 912 iS pilots are familiar with the two EMS lamps that let them know whether an engine issue requires that the aircraft be landed immediately. SkyView v14 adds two new alerts to aid pilots in interpreting those lamps. ROTAX: LIMIT FLIGHT OP is provided for engine issues that do not require an immediate landing. ROTAX: LAND AIRCRAFT is used for issues that do require that the aircraft be landed as soon as possible. This guidance is identical to that which Rotax provides in its engine operation guide. Note that installers can still connect the Rotax ECU lamp discrete outputs to SkyView contact inputs to display the actual lamps on a SkyView EMS page.

Dynon Avionics announces a wave of new products and initiatives at AirVenture Oshkosh 2015, led by aviation’s most affordable 2020-compliant ADS-B Out solution.
The new SV-GPS-2020 GPS Receiver/Antenna lets new and existing SkyView and Advanced AF-5000 series customers add a 2020-compliant GPS position source for ADS-B Out for only $590. INTRODUCED in April 2015:
New Remote Magnetometer for SkyView
In some aircraft, finding a suitable location for the ADAHRS is challenging due to competing location requirements for the air data, attitude, and magnetic heading sensors. To ease installation, Dynon now offers the SV-MAG-236, an optional remote magnetometer that lets customers install the magnetic sensors in an ideal location in the aircraft. The SV-MAG-236 is has a list price of $180, but will be available at introduction for $140.

SkyView 12.2 SkyView Software
SkyView 12.2 includes a software update for SkyView’s SV-XPNDR-261 transponders. This update adds support for the ADS-B+ data format required to use the Garmin GTN and GNS (WAAS versions) IFR navigators as a GPS position source for FAA 2020 ADS-B mandate compliance credit. Pilots that have these navigators installed in their aircraft and connected to SkyView’s SV-XPNDR-261 are encouraged to update to SkyView 12.2 and enable ADS-B+ format support on both SkyView and their navigator. SkyView 12.2 is expected to be released in late April.
ADS-B / TFR Improvements
SkyView now saves ADS-B weather and all active/upcoming TFRs across restarts. This gives the pilot access to weather and TFR information that is still valid when SkyView is turned back on, eliminating the wait for a full refresh from the ADS-B system after a quick stop for fuel or lunch. Stadium TFRs in the US are now distributed with SkyView’s free US aviation and obstacle databases since the FAA no longer broadcasts them via the ADS-B FIS-B service.

INTRODUCED in January 2015:
Autopilot auto-trim
The SkyView Autopilot can now automatically keep the aircraft in trim while under autopilot control, eliminating the need for the pilot to manually actuate their trim to satisfy the Autopilot's built-in trim advice. This feature requires that the aircraft has an SV-AP-PANEL and is using its integrated trim controller for electric trim servo actuation.  Auto-Trim can be configured on pitch and/or roll axes.
OBS Mode (Virtual VOR)
OBS Mode allows pilots to easily set and adjust an inbound course to any navigable point on the map. That inbound course may then be easily adjusted with the HSI CRS knob, similar to how one chooses a VOR radial. This feature is useful to approach an airport from a specific direction, for example, without having to create a second waypoint to create a full flight plan leg. Pilots can essentially treat any point on the map as a "virtual VOR".

Optional In-Air Magnetic Calibration
Pilots can now perform an optional in-flight magnetic heading calibration routine in addition to the existing ground calibration. Pilots that opt to perform this calibration are likely to see improved magnetic heading performance during flight maneuvers. It can also improve heading performance in aircraft where the ADAHRS is subject to localized magnetic interference.
Other SkyView 12 Features
With over 40 new features and improvements to SkyView, Dynon delivers on its commitment to continually provide value and keep SkyView state-of-the-art. As always, SkyView 12 software is  available as a free update for all SkyView customers. Updated documentation is also available, with red-line versions that capture the changes since version 11. There's a full set of release notes that detail every feature, improvement, and bug fix.
Just a few of the new features in SkyView 12 are:
  • Over a dozen new customizable Aircraft Icons to choose from on the HSI and moving map. It even includes a 747 for those who dream big.
  • New option under MAP MENU > MAP ITEMS > TFR OPACITY that allows pilots to change the opacity of TFRs. This can be used to tune the visibility of co-located TFRs and underlying map features.
  • Map zoom/range knob can be reversed so that clockwise rotation "zooms in" to the map (decreases range) to suit pilot preference.
  • MAP joystick/knob function can be set to either the left or right joystick/knob when MAP is full-screen (100% Page).

8.33 kHz COM Radio
Dynon’s SV-COM-C25 COM radio reinvented the pilot interface for radios. With dedicated buttons for tuning tower, ground, weather, and ATC frequencies, it saves time and reduces pilot workload. The SV-COM-X83 brings the same capability to Europe with 8.33 kHz frequency spacing. The 8.33 kHz transceiver module is TSO’d. The SV-COM-X83 comes in horizontal and vertical versions and will be available in August for a list price of $2195.
Video Input
With SkyView 11 Software, all SkyView Touch and new SkyView screens can display video in both full-screen and split-screen formats when equipped with a Video Input Adapter. Video sources connect via s-video or composite input. Both NTSC and PAL formats are supported for worldwide compatibility. The Video Input Adapter for SkyView will be available in August for $195.
Other SkyView 11 Features
With over 60 new features and improvements in SkyView 11, Dynon continues to advance SkyView’s state-of-the-art capabilities. As always, SkyView 11 software is available as a free update for all SkyView customers. Just a few of the new features in SkyView 11 are:
  • A pilot-selectable wide field of view mode for synthetic vision.
  • Color-coded airport weather icons on the map when equipped with an SV-ADSB-470 module.
  • The ability to synchronize the altimeter setting to the nearest station’s METAR report (requires SV-ADSB-470).
  • Support for third-party 8.33 kHz COM radios. Supported radios include the f.u.n.k.e. ATR833, Garmin GTR 225 & GNC 255, and Trig TY91/92.

With SkyView Touch™, Dynon created an interface designed to complement - not replace - the physical controls on SkyView. SkyView Touch™ adds the convenience of touch when you want it but keeps a full set of buttons and joystick knobs for precise control in turbulence.
Dedicated Control PanelsComplementing SkyView displays are the new SV-KNOB-PANEL and SV-AP-PANEL Control Panels, designed to minimize workload and provide the pilot the most intuitive and direct interface. The Knob Control Panel has dedicated controls for the most-frequently adjusted items - altitude bug, altimeter setting (baro), and heading/track bug. The Autopilot Control Panel provides single button activation of all autopilot modes, including LEVEL mode and flight director. Both products are backlit, dimmed by SkyView, and available in horizontal and vertical versions.
Trim Controller
The SV-AP-PANEL autopilot control panel has a built-in two-axis speed-sensitive trim controller.
“Six-Pack” Primary Flight Instrument DisplayPilots new to glass can transition with ease utilizing SkyView’s new “six-pack” primary flight instruments. Familiar round gauge depictions bridge the classic “retro” instruments with the state-of-the-art. Pilots can switch between six-pack and the modernized EFIS display instantaneously. The six-pack mode is included in the free 10.0 software upgrade.
Dual and Large Engine Support
Customers with two engines can now equip with dual EMS modules to monitor each engine independently. Two engine modules can also be used by pilots with larger engines to monitor all of their EGTs and CHTs, eliminating the need for them to choose which cylinders to monitor. Up to 28 total EGTs and CHTs can be monitored along with all other typical engine sensors.
VFR Sectionals and IFR En-route ChartsSkyView’s map gains geo-referenced VFR sectional charts and IFR Lo/Hi charts with SkyView 10 software. ALL US charts are nowavailable through a partnership with Seattle Avionics at no price increase from the existing procedure chart subscriptions. This means that $99 will buy customers a year of IFR/VFR procedure charts (plates), VFR sectionals, IFR Lo/Hi charts, and all FAA and Flight Guide airport diagrams. All products are geo-referenced. With US digital airport/aviation/obstacle data available free from Dynon’s website, there aren’t any added hidden database costs.
Audible Gear and Water Landing Alerts
Audible landing gear alerts based on aircraft configuration and airspeed. Airspeed-triggered ‘gear up for water’ / ‘gear down for land’ audible alerts for amphibious aircraft.
Other 10.0 Software Features
• The ability to filter the nearest airport list by runway length, surface, and airport type
• ADS-B winds aloft forecasts
• Altitude Intercept Arc shows a cyan arc projected at the place on the map that the aircraft will intercept the altitude bug based on the current climb/descent rate

European Chart Support with Launch Partner PocketFMS
In addition to VFR and IFR procedure charts and airport diagrams, European chart subscriptions include the visual approach, landing, and area charts that European pilots need to navigate effectively near airports.
PocketFMS
Our launch partner is PocketFMS, who already provides digital aviation (AeroData) databases for SkyView customers in Europe. Charts from PocketFMS are available to all customers with a full PocketFMS Frequent Flyer membership. Frequent Flyer membership costs €150 per year and includes AeroData, charts (including Pooleys for the UK), airport diagrams, and visual approach charts. 
European chart availability is much less centralized than it is in the US. Dynon supports multiple European chart data vendors so customers can choose the solution that best works for their region. Seattle Avionics, already a US SkyView chart data provider, expects to have their European charting solution available in the coming weeks. European ChartData subscriptions from Seattle Avionics will cost €199, and will also exclude German DFS charts.For more information about the differences between PocketFMS and Seattle Avionics chart subscriptions.

Geo-Referenced Charts and Airport Diagrams (US only)
Dynon worked hard to give you a robust and affordable solution for charts. We partnered with Seattle Avionics (425.806.0249) and got the lowest price in the industry at only $99 a year in the USA for all your Geo-referenced charts. That's airport diagrams, including over 5,000 FlightGuide diagrams, and all your approach plates, procedures, etc. Zooming, panning, and even following your plane on the center of the screen are all included.
Map Items Selection with the Map Pointer
You can now use the map pointer on the map to select airports, airspaces, and just about everything else you can see. Once selected, the object highlights, and details show up in a window. This is a fast way to find airspace altitudes, or select an airport for DTO or more info. The cursor also lets you select a point on the earth and see the elevation as well as how high above it you are (or below!)
Up/Down Timers SkyView now has powerful Up/Down timers, which are easy to configure, use, and understand. Audio alerting on expiration is standard, and so is resetting a count down timer to the last value used. You can even run separate timers on different screens if you have multiple SkyView displays. Look for the new TOOLS button on the main SkyView menu to use this feature.
Fuel tank Switch Reminder
Sure, Dynon can give you a simple countdown alert every X minutes when the engine is running, and we did. But we did more. You also have the option for an alert every X gallons used. So you can get a reminder every 4 gallons, which is really what you want when you are trying to keep your tanks balanced. An audio announcement to switch tanks is generated when this time or quantity expires. This is an independent feature of the Up/Down timer so you can use both at the same time.
Nearest ATC/FSS
The Nearest list now includes the nearest ATC and FSS frequencies. This is in the USA only and requires the free FAA database from Dynon.
 
Approach/Departure frequencies
All airports now include the Approach/Departure frequencies you should use, even if they are not a primary airport that has Approach/Departure services from the local tower.
Faster Expert autopilot controls
When using the Expert autopilot, you can now just press NOSE UP or NOSE DOWN when in ALT HOLD mode, and the aircraft will switch to VS mode at your default climb or descent rate. This means you can just dial in a new altitude with the alt knob and press NOSE UP and the plane will climb, rather than needing to press VS, NOSE UP, NOSE UP, NOSE UP, NOSE UP, NOSE UP to get a 500 FPM climb.
Improved Synthetic Vision
SynVis in SkyView now draws the image all the way to the horizon, with no sharp cut off at a fixed distance. Shorelines and water are also smoothed and look much nicer.
Improved Direct-To behavior
Now if you press Direct-To (DTO) while on a flight plan, the default will always be to take you direct-to the next point on your flight plan without canceling your flight plan. Great for small diversions around weather or traffic. Another customer requested feature!

SkyView Firmware Version 6.0 now available which adds new features to the SkyView Autopilot, including the new Simplified and Expert controls. Version 6.0 also adds COM Radio support to SkyView. For a full list of new features and changes in 6.0.
The new Autopilot features give both VFR and IFR pilots flying with the SkyView Autopilot everything they need to make the flight enjoyable and even safer. Both controls add the newLEVEL button which when pressed, the autopilot will immediately return the aircraft to straight and level flight. 
Expert Controls enable the SkyView to fly VNAV, IAS Hold, mode sequencing, fully-coupled approaches, show a Flight Director with single cue (v-bars) or dual cue (crosshairs) presentation, and more. These new features complete the system by building on existing modes such as heading hold, GPS ground track hold, altitude hold, and control wheel steering.
Simplified Controls streamline the controls to the modes pilots need and use the most with the activation reduced to a single button press. These modes include HSI+ALT for following navigation sources such as GPS flight plans, and TRK+ALT for flying in the direction and at the altitude you choose, and the 180 degree turn around button which immediate turns the aircraft around to the left and maintains current altitude.

COM Radio: The SV-COM-C25 changes the way pilots use their COM radio with a powerful, flexible interface that is designed to reduce cockpit workload. Tightly integrated into the SkyView system, the SV-COM-C25 allows pilots to tune frequencies by airport and station type – rather than by spinning in a number – at the touch of a button on the dedicated control panel. Pilots can also send frequencies to the radio from SkyView’s airport information pages. Dual concentric knobs let pilots spin in frequencies the old-fashioned way when they are feeling nostalgic (or are following ATC instructions.) SkyView will identify the airport and station type while frequencies are tuned to ensure the pilot is talking to the right radio station.
Intercom: The SV-INTERCOM-S2 two-place stereo intercom solves the problem of having to choose between an under-featured intercom and an expensive audio panel. The SV-INTERCOM-2S has everything pilots need to connect EFIS systems, stereo music, and other audio devices in their panels.

Ample inputs are provided to handle the audio sources in modern instrument panels. These include: dual muting inputs (one stereo for music), four non-muting inputs (one stereo for capable EFIS systems such as SkyView; the rest mono for radios and other avionics), dual stereo headset connections, and dual radio outputs..
Expert, and Simple, Autopilots: Version 6.0 SkyView firmware delivers a highly capable autopilot for expert pilots who fly IFR, and an alternate set of simplified controls for those who prefer VFR simplicity.
For the IFR pilot, SkyView's new autopilot features include VNAV, IAS Hold, mode sequencing, fully-coupled approaches, a Flight Director with single cue (v-bars) or dual cue (crosshairs) presentation, and more. These new features complete the system by building on existing modes such as heading hold, GPS ground track hold, altitude hold, and control wheel steering.
VFR pilots can cruise in comfort – without a steep learning curve – thanks to a new alternative set of simplified autopilot controls built into SkyView. User Data Logging: One user-configurable data log can record virtually all aspects of SkyView's state at rates between 0.1Hz and 16Hz. A second non-configurable "recent flight" data log records the last 15 minutes of flight data at 16hz. Both are CSV (comma separated value) files that are exported to USB.
Improved TFR depiction - Stadium TFRs, which do not have FAA-reported active times, are now a separately declutterable item under MAP MENU > MAP ITEMS. These airspaces are graphically depicted in orange on the map page.

SV-ADSB-470 UAT BAND ADS-B Traffic and Weather Receiver (US only) is a lightweight remote mounted receiver for ADS-B IN information that utilizes an externally mounted antenna for superior ADS-B reception.
WEATHER and TFRs: Subscription-free weather is displayed on the SkyView chart window, including NEXRAD radar, METARs and TAFS. Airport weather data can be displayed for nearest airports or for a specific airport identifier. Current TFRs are shown graphically
TRAFFIC: Receives ADS-B TIS-B traffic with precise location, altitude, speed, and direction. Includes both traffic broadcast from other aircraft equipped with ADS-B UAT transmitters, and data broadcast from ADS-B ground stations. Requires SkyView SV-XPNDR-261/262 transponder, currently the only transponder which meets the requirements.
The SV-ADBS-470 requires SkyView Version 5.0 or later firmware.

INTRODUCED in August 2012:
DETAILED BASEMAP DATA: Most visible in Version 4.0 are improvements to the SkyView navigation mapping, with free basemap data now available worldwide. These include towns, cities, roads, rivers, and railroads.  Airspace depiction is also greatly improved, with graphics that match the style and color of sectional type charts. European airspace details have been added to reflect all airspace categories. With the addition of this new data, SkyView now de-clutters objects and names to create a highly readable and detailed navigation map.
ENHANCED REDUNDANCY: Designed from the start to be the leading IFR platform, Version 4.0 enhances SkyView system redundancy with annunciation of network faults and ADAHRS inconsistencies.  All SkyView network cables have two sets of redundant data lines. Now, if a fault occurs on one data line it is annunciated on the SkyView display and all communications are automatically switched to the non-faulted data lines. Also, if an aircraft is equipped with two ADAHRS modules, and if the reported attitude or other information significantly differs between the two modules, then a warning is displayed to the pilot. The pilot can then cross check other instruments and disable the ADAHRS that is malfunctioning.
ROTAX 912 iS SUPPORT: New SV-EMS-221 Module which replaces the SV-EMS-220 for installations using the Rotax 912 iS engine. The new sensor kit EMSKIT-RTXiS has the required sensors.
SV-ADSB-470: A UAT Band Weather, TFR, and Traffic Receiver which provides ADS-B IN data to SkyView.

INTRODUCED in March 2012:
ALERTING and AUDIO OUT: The Audio Out feature includes tone and voice annunciation of engine, navigation, Angle of Attack, and autopilot messages and alerts, augmenting the visual alerting and messaging on the display.
USER WAYPOINTS: The new User Waypoint function gives the pilot a straight-forward, powerful way to create, manipulate, and import/export personal waypoints. User Waypoints now appear as an icon of the pilot's choosing, and like other airports or navaids they can be used in flight plans, as direct-to navigation waypoints, or can be used visually on the map page to help navigate. They include labeling with common airport and other graphic symbols.
ALTITUDE ALERTING: Allows the pilot to set altitude alert points above and below the chosen altitude bug. 
MAP GPS INFORMATION BOXES: Waypoint GPS information can now be displayed on the GPS navigation map, including items such as Bearing to Waypoint, Distance to Go, Distance to Waypoint, ETA, Ground Speed, and GPS Altitude. All of this additional GPS information can be selected and viewed by the pilot in flight.
AIRSPEED ZERO ADJUST. Allows calibration on the ground at zero airspeed. 
ROTAX 912 ENGINE MONITOR: New Rotax 912 engine setup dynamically adjusts the oil temperature and tachometer gauges to reflect limitations specified by Rotax.  
SV-NET-HUB: A new network connection device, the SV-NET-HUB, is now available to make it easier to install the SkyView system. With five network ports, it allows easier connection between multiple SkyView modules. The hub can be conveniently mounted where additional network connections are required. One port can connect to a SkyView display leaving four ports available for connection to the ADAHRS, EMS module, and autopilot servos.

NEW KAVLICO ENGINE PRESSURE SENSORS: We have switched our source of pressure sensors to solid-state Kavlico sensors. Kavlico is a US company that has been making high quality sensors for over 50 years, and is well known in the aviation industry. Engine sensor kits now include these new solid-state sensors, and we have optimized the sensor ranges to better match engine pressure ranges offering greater resolution and accuracy. (The older sensors and kits are still available if needed.)

The Kavlico solid-state sensors do require different wiring, with a third wire needed for 5-volt power.

NEW POCKETFMS AERODATA: PocketFMS now provides worldwide AeroData for SkyView, including all airspace, airports, runways, frequencies, obstacles, and waypoints. Coverage encompasses Europe, North America (including Canada), Australia, and New Zealand.
Based in The Netherlands, the PocketFMS Foundation has been providing aeronautical data since 2003. AeroData is professionally maintained and continuously updated from official Aeronautical Information Publications and enhanced and extended from a variety of other sources, including local expert contributors. AeroData for SkyView is updated every 28 days with the most current information. AeroData is available as a one year subscription for €119, and only one subscription is required per cockpit even those with two SkyView displays.

MAP PANNING: Pan around the map to see detailed airport, airspace, and terrain information for areas away from the current aircraft location.  Airports, VORs, NDBs, Fixes, and arbitrary lat-long locations can be easily added as direct-to and flight plan waypoints. Just pan to a new location, push 'Nearest", and you receive a list of the aviation facilities closest to the cursor from which to obtain more information or add as a destination or waypoint.
The Map user-interface has been optimized to be the fastest and most intuitive available:
* Pushing sideways on the Map joystick activates panning, and the lat-long location appears on the screen.
* At any time while panning you can zoom in to see more detail or out to gain a wide perspective, which also helps move the cursor quickly to a distant location.
* Pushing Direct-To sends you directly to the cursor location.
* Pushing NRST (Nearest) opens a list of the closest airports and nav aids to the cursor.
* Pushing "FIND" opens a menu that allows you to dial in the airport or nav aid identifier. name, or town, starting with those closest to the cursor.
MAP DATA: Political boundaries, including international and major state/province boundaries.
EFIS Serial Data Output: SkyView can now output flight data information through a RS-232 serial port, including NMEA standard GPS data that can be used by a 406 MHz Emergency Locator Transmitter to broadcast aircraft location.
Larger Fonts and Improved Graphics: Answering a customer request, mostly by those using the SV-D7oo 7" display, the PFD fonts have been enlarged and improved for better readability. The navigation annunciation near the HSI have been moved and have better transparent graphics to improve overall visibility.
VP-X Support: SkyView now is the user interface for the VP-X Electronic Circuit Breakers. The VP-X screen is very configurable, and it can show device status, current draw, faults, voltages, alternator status, over-voltage faults, and much more. The trim and flap position from the VP-X can be shown on the SkyView system as well as a VP-X master warning lamp and a starter annunciator lamp.
The VP-X information appears as a window along with the SkyView Engine Monitor, Primary Flight Display and GPS Moving Map. Pilots will be able to monitor the health of their electrical system, view and control the status of individual circuits, and respond to circuit faults using the SkyView display. VP-X is an optional software feature and requires a software license available from Dynon for $275.

MULTI-LEG FLIGHT PLANNING:Create and manipulate flight plans with multiple waypoints right on your SkyView display. Or, use any computer-based flight planner that supports the GPX file format to create flight plans at home!
SkyView can be set up to provide turn anticipation between flight plan legs. When configured this way, SkyView starts its turn guidance in advance of a waypoint to fly a transition that doesn't overshoot the next leg.
For times that a flight plan isn't needed "direct-to" capability is still as easy to use as it has been in previous Navigation Mapping Software version.
EMS Serial Data Output: SkyView can now output complete, real time RS-232 data from the sensors and other inputs that are connected to the SV-EMS-220. ________________________________________________________________________

WORLDWIDE NAVIGATION DATA: Dynon Avionics and Jeppesen have entered into an agreement to provide Jeppesen NavData® and obstacle services for SkyView.  The avionics data offering for Dynon Avionics allows light sport and experimental aircraft pilots anywhere in the world to enjoy Jeppesen navigation data. Included is airport information, runways, navaids, and Com and Nav frequencies. More information about ordering data from Jeppesen is shown here. SV-MAP-270 is required to use Jeppesen data. 
SV-MAP-270 GPS NAVIGATION SOFTWARE: This software enhancement to SkyView is available at the one-time cost of $500. It includes the the ability to use GPS navigation, airport, obstacles, navaid, runway, and Com and Nav frequency data. The user interface to find and view data is highly intuitive and easy to use. FAA navigation and obstacle data for flights in the US can be downloaded for free on the Dynon website. Outside the US, navigation and obstacle data can be purchased from Jeppesen.
Free Trial Notes: SV-GPS-270 can be used as a free trial for 30 hours of flight time. The 30 hours become active upon installation of 3.0, and only flight hours count. (You may use the trial for as long as you want while stationary, before the the 30 flight hours are used.)
ENHANCED HSI: With 3.0 the HSI display is larger with improved visibility.
G-METER: The SkyView G-Meter mixes a classic analog display with some digital magic to offer amazing graphics and functionality. Because you don't need navigation while performing aerobatics, the G-Meter is pilot selectable to replace the HSI making it large and easily visible. Magnetic heading always remains visible. Resettable Min/Max G's flank the instantaneous value. The G-Meter can be toggled on and off manually, or it can be set to pop up on user-defined G thresholds.
