SkyView Version 5.0 with ADS-B Weather and Traffic Support

DYNON ANNOUNCES SKYVIEW VERSION 5.0 FEATURING ADS-B WEATHER, TFRs, AND TRAFFIC

Woodinville, WA, December 13th, 2012 - Dynon Avionics has released Version 5.0 Software for the SkyView Integrated Glass Panel system, making good on their Oshkosh promise to deliver the SV-ADSB-470 UAT Band Traffic and Weather Receiver for the SkyView system this fall. Version 5.0 is a free upgrade for all existing SkyView owners.
Version 5.0, coupled with the SV-ADSB-470 UAT Band Traffic and Weather Receiver, adds the highly desired weather feature to SkyView for US customers. With 5.0, SkyView's moving map can display weather and TFRs in addition to the terrain, airspace and base map / cultural data it already provides, all while remaining clear and easy to understand thanks to SkyView smart map layering system. Weather can be displayed graphically and textually on SkyView, and includes NEXRAD radar, METARs, and TAFS.  Additionally, airport weather data can be selected based on nearest or by airport identifier. All information displayed is free, with no monthly subscriptions, based on the FAA’s ADS-B broadcast in the US.
Michael Schofield, Marketing Manager at Dynon, mentions “We’re excited to offer in-flight weather on SkyView. It is the number one feature asked for by our customers, who want fully integrated real-time data that is subscription free.”
SkyView 5.0 also adds ADS-B Traffic reception capability when the SV-ADSB-470 is combined with either of Dynon’s existing SV-XPNDR-26X Mode-S transponder modules. With this combination, SkyView users have access to reliable, accurate traffic. Nearby traffic threats can generate audio alerts to notify the pilot of possible collisions, even when the pilot us not actively looking at the display.  Note that because the FAA's ADS-B system requires the aircraft to be ADS-B OUT equipped before traffic information is provided, 5.0 includes a software update to the existing transponder which updates it to the TSO C166B that enables it to work with the latest implementation of the FAA's ADS-B system. This is important, as the transponder-based ADS-B Out transmission wakes up the ADS-B ground stations and causes them to send a traffic portrait that includes all known ADS-B targets around the SkyView-equipped aircraft. This update also makes the SV-XPNDR-261 the only transponder on the experimental market that will be able to be used to satisfy the FAA's "2020 ADS-B Out mandate" (the SV-XPNDR-262, because of its lower output power class rating, won't be able to be used for 2020 mandate compliance). This transponder update also has the added feature of automatic ALT/GND mode changes based on air data and GPS information.
The SkyView system also received several ongoing improvements to its current features. These inlclude a single display reversionary mode for multi-display systems, a new screen SWAP button which swaps entire contents of the displays, airspace depiction improvements, and a better fuel computer interface. For a full list of all the additions please see the SkyView User Manual available from the Dynon Website.

Dynon Ships New ADS-B "In" Weather and Traffic Receiver - December 2012

DYNON SHIPS NEW ADS-B “IN” WEATHER, TRAFFIC and TFR RECEIVER

Seattle, WA -  Dynon Avionics is now shipping the SV-ADSB-470 UAT Band Traffic and Weather Receiver for the SkyView system.  This remotely mounted receiver module integrates with the SkyView system to provide easy access to weather and traffic information on top of the detailed navigational information SkyView already provides.

At an MSRP of $995, the SV-ADSB-470 is an affordable permanently mounted ADS-B "In" solution which has been designed specifically for experimental and light sport aircraft. It is powered directly from aircraft power and utilizes an externally mounted antenna (not included) for superior performance.
All information displayed is free with no monthly subscriptions, based on the FAA’s ADS-B broadcast in the USA. Weather is displayed graphically and textually on SkyView, and includes NEXRAD radar, METARs, and TAFS.  Airport weather data can be chosen based on nearest or by airport identifier.
Additionally, when paired with an ADS-B “Out” capable SV-XPNDR-26X Mode-S Transponder, the SV-ADSB-470 receives a full traffic portrait from the FAA ADS-B system. This portrait is tailor-made for the SkyView-equipped aircraft and includes all ADS-B and radar targets that the FAA can detect. In contrast, other portable/receive-only ADS-B solutions only receive “partial” traffic when another ADS-B “Out” equipped aircraft happens to be nearby, drastically reducing their traffic-sensing capabilities.
This SV-ADSB-470 is only suitable for use in the US with the FAA's ADS-B system, as it receives data via the US-only 978 MHz UAT frequency. It will not receive traffic, weather, or TFRs in other countries.
Founded in 2000, Dynon Avionics is the leading manufacturer of avionics for Experimental and Light Sport Aircraft. Continuing a tradition started with the introduction of their first Electronic Flight Information System “glass panel”, Dynon is committed to developing innovative and high-quality avionics integrating the newest technology as it develops at affordable prices for all pilots.

ADS-B Receiver Now Shipping

Dynon is now shipping the new SV-ADSB-470 Traffic and Weather receiver for SkyView.

SV-ADSB-470 UAT BAND ADS-B Traffic and Weather Receiver (US only)

It is available directly from us as well as your favorite Dynon dealer.

ADS-B Weather Image

Please note that this product only works in the US with the US FAA ADS-B system, as it receives on the US-only 978 MHz UAT frequency. It will not work for either traffic or weather in other countries.

The product page on the Dynon website is here.
The product brochure may be downloaded here.

The SV-ADSB-470 module requires a separate external antenna and coax cable which we do not sell; any antenna suitable for use with an aircraft transponder will work, as will UAT specific antennas. The SV-ADSB-470 antenna must not be placed within 2 feet of the transponder antenna.

Also note that for traffic reception, the SV-ADSB-470 requires the SkyView Mode-S transponder to be part of the SkyView system.  Weather reception works without the Mode-S transponder.

Finally, the SV-ADSB-470 requires SkyView Version 5.0, which will not be released for several more weeks. We are releasing the hardware early so that customers can receive and install the module in time for the software release. A pre-installation guide to physically install the SV-ADSB-470 module will be available at http://docs.dynonavionics.com on Monday, Dec 3. The software release will be announced on our Website.

Seattle area with updated airspace and map depictions
Version 4.0 also enhances SkyView system redundancy with annunciation of network faults and ADAHRS inconsistencies.  All SkyView network cables have two sets of redundant data lines. Now, if a fault occurs on one data line it is annunciated on the SkyView display and all communications are automatically switched to the non-faulted data lines. Also, if an aircraft is equipped with two ADAHRS modules, and if the reported attitude or other information significantly differs between the two modules, then a warning is displayed to the pilot. The pilot can then cross check other instruments and disable the ADAHRS that is malfunctioning.

The SkyView autopilot received several ongoing improvements to enhance performance, and finally, SkyView version 4.0 includes support for the Rotax 912 iS, a new engine popular with LSA manufacturers. The new SV-EMS-221 Module, required for this feature, is also available now.  An SV-MAP-270 navigation mapping license is required to utilize the new basemap data.

Customers can download SkyView Version 4.0 and the basemap databases for free from the Dynon SkyView downloads page

SkyView ADS-B Receiver for Weather, Traffic, and TFRs

DYNON ANNOUNCES NEW ADS-B “IN” WEATHER, TRAFFIC and TFR RECEIVER

Woodinville, WA, July 18th, 2012 -Dynon announces the SV-ADSB-470 UAT Band Traffic and Weather Receiver for the SkyView system.  This remotely mounted receiver module integrates with the SkyView system to provide easy access to weather and traffic information on top of the detailed navigational information SkyView already provides.
At an MSRP of $995, the SV-ADSB-470 is the most affordable permanently mounted ADS-B solution on the market and has been designed specifically for experimental and light sport aircraft. It is powered directly from aircraft power and utilizes an externally mounted antenna for superior performance.
By combining the SV-ADSB-470 with Dynon’s existing SV-XPNDR-261 Mode-S transponder module with ADS-B out, reliable, accurate traffic will be provided to the SkyView system, even without a certified GPS on board. The ADS-B system requires the aircraft to be ADS-B OUT equipped before traffic information is provided, and Dynon’s Transponder is fully DO-260B / ADS-B out certified so SkyView owners will receive a complete traffic picture any time ADS-B services are available. Nearby traffic that is a threat will generate an audio alert so that the pilot does not need to keep looking at the screen to be alerted to nearby aircraft.
Robert Hamilton, Director of Marketing at Dynon, mentions “We’re excited to offer in-flight weather on SkyView. It is the number one feature asked for by our customers, who want fully integrated real-time data that is subscription free.”

SkyView 3.3 Released

SkyView Software Version 3.3 is now available for download.

SkyView 3.3 adds audio alerts and messaging, fully integrated user waypoint functions, and much more and highly configurable GPS waypoint information to the Moving Map window.

The Audio Out feature includes voice annunciation of engine, navigation, and autopilot alerts, augmenting the visual alerting and messaging already incorporated in the display.

The new User Waypoint function allows the pilot to create, manipulate, and import/export user defined waypoints. User Waypoints now appear as an icon of the pilot's choosing, and like other airports or navaids they can be used in flight plans, as direct-to navigation waypoints, or can be used visually on the map page to help navigate.

Substantially more waypoint GPS information can now be displayed on the GPS navigation map, including items such as Bearing to Waypoint, Distance to Go, Distance to Waypoint, ETA, Ground Speed, and GPS Altitude. All of this additional GPS information can be selected and viewed by the pilot in flight.
The new Map Navigation features require that the SkyView System have a SV-MAP-270 software license.

A new hardware device for SkyView is also being introduced, the SV-NET-HUB. With five network ports, it allows easier connection between multiple SkyView modules. Typically mounted in the avionics bay, one port can connect to a SkyView display leaving four ports available for connection to the ADAHRS, EMS module, and autopilot servos.

Customers can download SkyView Version 3.3 for free from the Dynon Website at http://www.dynonavionics.com/docs/support_software_SkyView.html
