The D1 Pocket Panel
Yesterday at AirVenture 2012, Dynon Avionics unveiled its latest product, the Dynon D1 Pocket Panel. The D1 is a true portable artificial horizon based on the same technology that drives Dynon’s proven EFIS systems. Since the D1 is portable and can be mounted and removed in seconds, it can be used by any pilot in practically any aircraft.
In addition to providing attitude, a high-quality, highly sensitive GPS receiver is built into the D1 to provide GPS ground speed, altitude, vertical speed, and ground track for enhanced flight situational awareness.
With over four hours of battery life, the D1 can be used with no connection to ship’s power. However, a “cigarette lighter” DC vehicle adapter is included if you want to keep the D1 fully charged at all times, and it can be set to turn on and off with the aircraft’s Battery Master through the DC outlet.
Priced at $1425, the D1 is available at Oshkosh from Dynon Avionics dealers, or it can be ordered from Dynon directly.

Dynon D1 Pocket Panel Portable EFIS
DYNON ANNOUNCES NEW D1 POCKET PANEL PORTABLE EFIS
Woodinville, WA, July 23rd, 2012 - Dynon introduces a portable true attitude indicator that can be used by ALL pilots. The D1 utilizes the same Dynon MEMS-based AHRS technology that has made Dynon the leading supplier of EFIS (Electronic Flight Information Systems) in experimental and Light Sport Aircraft. This new D1 Pocket Panel can be used by all GA pilots, and is priced at $1,425.
The D1 is a true artificial horizon with accurate pitch and roll, and can find the horizon even if turned on in flight. And it maintains the horizon during extended duration turns. The AHRS sensors also drive a turn rate indicator and slip/skid ball. Included is an internal GPS receiver to display GPS ground speed, altitude, vertical speed, and ground track.
At only 3½” wide, 3¼” high, and 1” thick, the D1 is truly portable. It features a battery that will last at least four hours on a charge, and comes with two portable mounting options. The first is a RAM® suction cup mount, and the second is 3 ⅛” portable “pinch” mount.
Robert Hamilton, Dynon Marketing Manager, states “The number one question we receive at air shows is ‘Can I put Dynon avionics in my airplane?’ If they flew a type certificated plane our answer was always no. But now for the first time we can say yes.”
Accessories included with the D1 are an AC power adapter, a DC vehicle power adaptor, a RAM® suction cup mount, 3 ⅛” portable “pinch” mount, internal Li-Ion battery, and external GPS antenna.
D1 Pocket Panels will be available starting July 23rd, 2012, directly from Dynon and through Dynon authorized dealers. Dynon dealers will have inventory at Oshkosh AirVenture.

SkyView Version 4.0 with Basemap Data, Enhanced Redundancy
DYNON ANNOUNCES SKYVIEW VERSION 4.0 FEATURING NEW BASE MAP FEATURES and IMPROVED REDUNDANCY
Woodinville, WA, July 23rd, 2012 - Dynon Avionics is introducing Version 4.0 firmware for the SkyView Integrated Glass Panel system. Version 4.0 is a free upgrade for all existing SkyView owners and will ship standard in all new systems. The new product features in 4.0 will be on display at Oshkosh AirVenture, Building D, Booths 4053-54-55, and will be shipping in August 21, 2012.
Most visible in Version 4.0 are improvements to the SkyView navigation mapping, with free base-map data now available worldwide. These include towns, cities, roads, rivers, and railroads. Airspace depiction is also greatly improved, with graphics that match the style and color of sectional type charts. European airspace details have been added to reflect all airspace categories. With the addition of this new data, SkyView now de-clutters objects and names to create a highly readable and detailed navigation map.
Designed from the start to be the leading IFR platform, Version 4.0 also enhances SkyView system redundancy with annunciation of network faults and ADAHRS inconsistencies. All SkyView network cables have two sets of redundant data lines. Now, if a fault occurs on one data line it is annunciated on the SkyView display and all communications are automatically switched to the non-faulted data lines. Also, if an aircraft is equipped with two ADAHRS modules, and if the reported attitude or other information significantly differs between the two modules, then a warning is displayed to the pilot. The pilot can then cross check other instruments and disable the ADAHRS that is malfunctioning.
The SkyView autopilot received several ongoing improvements, and Version 4.0 includes support for the Rotax 912 iS, a new engine popular with LSA manufacturers. The new SV-EMS-221 Module, required for this feature, will also ship in August. An SV-MAP-270 navigation mapping license is required to utilize the new base-map data.
Customers can download SkyView Version 4.0 and the base-map databases for free from the Dynon Website.

SkyView ADS-B Receiver for Weather, Traffic, and TFRs
DYNON ANNOUNCES NEW ADS-B “IN” WEATHER, TRAFFIC and TFR RECEIVER
Woodinville, WA, July 18th, 2012 -Dynon announces the SV-ADSB-470 UAT Band Traffic and Weather Receiver for the SkyView system. This remotely mounted receiver module integrates with the SkyView system to provide easy access to weather and traffic information on top of the detailed navigational information SkyView already provides.
At an MSRP of $995, the SV-ADSB-470 is the most affordable permanently mounted ADS-B solution on the market and has been designed specifically for experimental and light sport aircraft. It is powered directly from aircraft power and utilizes an externally mounted antenna for superior performance.
All information displayed is free with no monthly subscriptions, based on the FAA’s ADS-B broadcast in the USA. Weather is displayed graphically and textually on SkyView, and includes NEXRAD radar, METARs, and TAFS. Airport weather data can be chosen based on nearest or by airport identifier.
By combining the SV-ADSB-470 with Dynon’s existing SV-XPNDR-261 Mode-S transponder module with ADS-B out, reliable, accurate traffic will be provided to the SkyView system, even without a certified GPS on board. The ADS-B system requires the aircraft to be ADS-B OUT equipped before traffic information is provided, and Dynon’s Transponder is fully DO-260B / ADS-B out certified so SkyView owners will receive a complete traffic picture any time ADS-B services are available. Nearby traffic that is a threat will generate an audio alert so that the pilot does not need to keep looking at the screen to be alerted to nearby aircraft.
Robert Hamilton, Director of Marketing at Dynon, mentions “We’re excited to offer in-flight weather on SkyView. It is the number one feature asked for by our customers, who want fully integrated real-time data that is subscription free.”
This new SkyView module will be available Fall, 2012, along with firmware updates to the SkyView system and the SV-XPNDR-261/262 transponder modules.
