SkyView holds up during SnF power outage

As most of you know by now, we just had the worst weather ever experienced at SnF. First it was some nasty rain, then the sky got very very dark, power went out and "all hail" poured down, then the worst thing for an airport, the wind, I'm sure it hit 100 miles per hour but haven't heard the official report yet.

At hanger 'A' we Dynonians were working away when it hit. The sounds were incredible and it felt like the whole hanger was going to give. The hanger held and so did SkyView, our IFR demo panel equipped with the backup battery, was going strong. It was probably the only EFIS at the entire show that is still operational (even now) through the outage. It made me feel good since we spend the whole show telling people that the SkyView backup battery will keep the system going if power is lost in flight. Usually real life is the best way to prove yourself...

Even now as I write this (at 1:30), power is still out and we are waiting out the storm. I worry about those who were not protected as well in the hanger.

DYNON AVIONICS ANNOUNCES HAND HELD RADIO AUCTION

DYNON AVIONICS ANNOUNCES HAND HELD RADIO AUCTION

March 29, 2011
PLEASE NOTE. THE DX15 is no longer available. It was a temporary product.
Woodinville, WA, As their initial entry into aviation communications, Dynon is offering a limited edition hand-held radio.  100 compact aviation band transceivers were created as part of their plans to eventually supplement the versatile SkyView Glass Panel System with a panel mounted radio. They have created the hand-held transceivers to learn about radio design, FCC Part 87 certification, and radio production.

These 100 limited edition hand-held aviation radios are restricted to usage in the United States and are being offered to U.S. pilots through a unique auction. A typical retail price for equivalent radios would be about $250, but bids will be accepted starting as low as $75. Participants can only bid once, for up to two units. Shipping in the U.S. is free.

The top legitimate bids for the 100 hand-helds will be accepted. The price for all of them will be the lowest bid of the top 100.  Anyone who bids below the top 100 bids will not receive a unit. If there is more than one bid at the lowest price, then Dynon will accept the first bid submitted at that price.

Bids will be accepted between March 29th and April 27th. Winners will be notified by email and will be expected to pay by credit card.

SkyView 3.0… the final build…

It is Thursday night and I just loaded the official SkyView 3.0 software onto the test unit on my desk. The final build is here, it is another exciting step for SkyView and the Dynon-nation. I’m finding that I’m addicted to just pushing buttons to play with the new map user interface and view the new data that is now displayed. The excitement resonating from our customers is evident too. Customers all over the world are clamoring to get navigation mapping for the first time with the addition of worldwide Jeppesen data. Our USA customers, who have been enjoying the free trial version of the map, can now expect a heck-of-a lot more map features and an elegant presentation, all on a nice big 10” screen.

Unfortunately, multi-leg flight planning didn’t make the date, but we have carved out a special release for that within weeks, not months, from now to ensure you are not kept waiting too long. There is also a clever g-meter we are anxious to hear feedback on. Our aerobatic beta testers sure liked it, and we think others will too.

But the highlight of my week (next to holding the final build in my hand) was hearing about a phone call we got from one of these excited customers that I referred to above. It went something like this: “Are you guys going to release 3.0 today?... because if you are, I'm going to take the day off from work and go fly my SkyView system”. Unfortunately, we had to send him to work for at least another week (I think he was able to cope with that). But that kind of energy is what we at Dynon love to hear; it makes our job fun. I am pumped about SkyView 3.0 and look forward to talking to users about it at the upcoming air shows.

So if any of you need to schedule some time to “work” on your airplane, you should probably carve out this coming Monday and give 3.0 a ride!

Hope to see many of you at SUN ‘n FUN

Sincerely,

-Nick

Skyview VP-X Support Announced - March 2011

DYNON AVIONICS and VERTICAL POWER, INC. ANNOUNCE SKYVIEW SUPPORT for the VP-X

Woodinville, WA, USA, March 1, 2011 - Dynon Avionics announced they will be adding integrated support for the Vertical Power VP-X Pro and VP-X Sport electronic circuit breaker systems within their SkyView Glass Panel displays.
The VP-X system will enable pilots to monitor and control their entire electrical system using a SkyView display. The VP-X pilot display appears as a window along with the SkyView Engine Monitor, Primary Flight Display and GPS Moving Map. Pilots will be able to monitor the health of their electrical system, view and control the status of individual circuits, and respond to circuit faults using the SkyView display. Further, trim and flap position via the VP-X is displayed on the SkyView.
The VP-X Pro provides over 30 power circuits, including trim and flap circuits, to provide enough capacity to wire almost any two or four place experimental or light sport aircraft. The VP-X replaces older mechanical components with modern, solid-state technology to increase reliability, reduce weight, and simplify wiring.
Robert Hamilton, Director of Sales and Marketing for Dynon, stated: "Many SkyView customers are asking for VP-X support; it is one of our most highly requested features. We are excited to put this on our development schedule. We share Vertical Power's high quality standards and appreciate the innovations they are bringing to the experimental market with the VP-X."
“The VP-X offers a tremendous amount of capability at a very affordable price, and we’re excited to be working on this integration with Dynon,” said Marc Ausman, President of Vertical Power Inc. “The VP-X is based on the same field-proven technology used in hundreds of Vertical Power systems flying today.”
Dynon plans to license the VP-X SkyView application for $275, with availability by the end of 2011. Customers can configure and test the VP-X system using Vertical Power’s free Windows PC-based Configurator application.
For more information about the SkyView and VP-X system, please visit the Dynon Website at www.dynonavionics.com, or at the Vertical Power Website at www.verticalpower.com/VPX.html.
